1) Watch President Obama's speech to a joint session of Congress tonight at 9:00 P.M.
2) Choose ONE WORD that you think best summarizes, characterizes, or describes the speech and post it below.
3) Provide a couple of sentences that explains why you chose that word. Keep it short....maybe three sentences is too much.

The one word I would choose would be personal.
Obama talked in a straight forward way that seemed like he was talking to you personally (before his speech they said he had based the tone of his speech on the fireside chats, which I think he achieved ). He talked about things like what we owe to our children, and our responsibilities to our country, and gave startling stats such as : 1.5 mil americans could lose homes due to health care costs this year and half of the sudents who start college dont finish.
I would say hopeful. he told not just the american people but congress that if we all work together we can pull through this recession. he told stories that showed how there is still hope left in America.
I would choose promising. He spoke of the things that needed to be reformed, the plans he had for the reform, and how he knows history can show us what has worked. He showed how he's really working to change America for the better.
The word i chose is Promise.
President Obama made many promises during his speech that will make the Nation stronger and more powerful. He promised tax cuts for the working class, universal healthcare, an end to the Iraq war and the increase of jobs in the country. His promises made it seem as though he was talking to individuals personally.
Im going to go with optomistic.
Yes, the economy isn't too great right now, but by working together and reorganizing priorites to put America first, recovery will be successful. "we WILL rebuild. we WILL recover and the United States WILL emerge stronger than ever before." It connects back to the "hope over fear" aspect of Obama's inaugral address.
REFORM- President Obama's speech described the ways in which he hoped to create more jobs, provide tax cuts, and focus the budget on energy, healthcare and education. As President Obama said, while "the cost of action will be great...the cost of inaction will be greater." This is an eloquent way to call for economic reform.
I'm choosing responsability.
Not only did Obama mention responsability several times during his speech but I personally love this quote, "It is our responsability as lawmakers and educators to make the system work." The President is so correct by saying that!...He managed to give a message of hope and optimism while making the public understand that it is our responsability and in our hands to change the crisis and all the problems our nation is being faced with.
POSITIVE(+)
Although not always a good positive, at times I felt I was being fed a false positive that contradicts the reality of this recession. But I understand that Mr. President was only trying to reassure and provoke the American public with his use of hopefulness.
FDR-esque.
Obama talked about stimulating the economy by having American workers rebuild infastructure (powerlines secifically). He talked about social security, and had an overall optomistic, hopeful tone.

Obama covered many aspects of the economy in his speech, gave solutions, and explained how he would take care of each part (education, green energy/auto industry, banks, housing, healthcare). As always, he spoke in a way that really connects to the people and with his knowledge and calmness, reassured Americans that we can get through the crisis and come out of it better than ever.
I would say optimistic. He was so hopeful and set many goals for america in healthcare, education, and for energy saving. I felt like he really believed that his plan will work and was reassuring. You could see the audience's aproval a lot of the time.
I would say Innovative
President Obama introduced new ideas for the reform of energy, medicine, healthcare, education, science, and the auto industry. He stressed the fact that we need to get the country ahead again, and that America needs to use new technologies, as well as invent new ones, in order to get back on top. For example, he talked about energy reform, and that America has to lead the race to find new sustainable energies.
I would choose clear. Obama lay down what he was going to do for the economy and America very plainly, while reassuring us and giving us things to hope for. He very straight forwardly told us what to expect and explained why he was going to do it without using really confusing language, so it was very easy to understand. By the end you were very clear on what his plans, promises, and hopes were.
