Does this sound familiar?

A Missouri pastor recently gave testimony to a legislative group on gay rights.....but that's only the start of what he was trying to say.  You'll have to watch the whole video to get what's going on.  Click the picture to see the youtube video.  Please comment.

Wow, I was not expecting that at all. This man has a lot of confidence to accuse the people now a days of have the same beliefs of those of the past century against blacks. I greatly admire this man, and agree with him 100%. What he is stating is so true. The way people act now a days against homosexuals is the same way people acted years ago against blacks. Now those who are racists to blacks are shunned by the vast majority of American communities. I hope one day that can happen for homosexuals too. The argument that exists today is exactly the same as the one from yesterday. A group of people are being attacked simply because they are different. It makes me angry that these people can't learn from history. After all, that's one of the main reasons why history is taught in the first place.

I thought that was really interesting. A part of me is curious if the speaker brought the "wrong" notes on purpose to make his argument connect with another controversial topic in the last century. This may not be completely true, but it seems to me that racial equality in the 1900s was a bigger issue than homosexuality is now. The topic then affected more people. Either way, he definitely made a strong connection. People then argued that racial equality goes against the Bible and as he "misinterpretted", people now are saying something very similar. We were, eventually, able to acheive racial equality in the past and stil work towards it now which makes me hopeful that one day people will be able to say the same thing about same-sex marriage.

I think this video was an extremely clever way of using past facts to make an arguement in the present day. Missouri pastor Phil Snider has realized that everyone's opinion back then were all commonly and casually rasist against blacks and compared to now, that's how many see homosexuals. At first while watching this video, I was thinking in my head of what to comment and thought of things like; I strongly disagree with what this man is saying, or it is aweful to hear this pastor saying this. But, pastor Phil Snider truely shocked me with his ending and I think that's partially why I was so effected by this video. Although more people were involved in being racist back then, then there are people against same-sex marriage, I still think that it was a good connection between the two. I think this speech will change many peoples past opinions on same-sex marriage and will make others who aren't against it, stronger. Overall, I think this pastors speech was extremely good, and his meathod of supporting same-sex marriage made the speech far more interesting!

I love this video. It represents a strong parallel between our time and back when people were fighting for African American rights. I do believe people against gay rights will have stood on the wrong side of history. It is interesting how similar people back then sound to people now. The Bible, as well as any document, including the Constitution, is interpreted in different ways by different people. People can use it to defend denying rights to people, and that is why separation of church and state is important. A lot of the same arguments are being used, which is really interesting. Reading the comments is eye-opening, because there is such a debate in the comments. A lot of people are arguing that the pastor can't be christian and support gay rights, and that the bible condemns homosexuality clearly. I do not know a lot about the bible, but I believe this is beside the point, and religious beliefs have no place in guaranteeing equal rights for all.

Wow.

First of all, I have to admit, I read all the positive comments first so when the video started I got pretty angry. Then the video finished.

I was pretty shocked by how similar the arguments against racial equality and gay rights actually are. I didn't suspect a thing.

I did notice however, that when he was speaking out "against" gays the people in the audience seemed completely uneffected. Nobody seemed to care at all! That just bothered me. It makes my hair stand on end to think that people are still this blind. I heard somewhere that in 50 years our grandchildren will be in school reading about the gay rights fight and shaking their heads at us just as we look down on the racists from the 1800s and 1900s and I don't doubt it one bit.

I feel like in our century, our population is made up of extremely opinionated people and no matter what the topic is there is an argument against it. In this case, Christian people and people that follow the word of God do not agree with same-sex marriage. There is this huge division created between the homosexuals and heterosexuals and just like Pastor Phil Snider stated, it becomes evident this division is similar to the division of blacks and whites up until the 1960s. Personally, I do not believe that it is any of my business if two women or two men wish to get married, it does not effect me so how do I have the right to tell them what to do? So hearing this Pastor stand up in front of so many people, and like Rebecca said with so much confidence is remarkable to me. I look up to this man as well because he shows that we should not accuse homosexuals of "stepping toward immorality", of putting "OUR rights in jeopardy because of their actions", or that "our cities would be in danger because unchristian views would be forced on us". These accusations are immoral! And it is completely mind-blowing that such people can think in this way. Either way, I very much enjoyed this video because I agree with Pastor Snider.
